Our Most Important Fund Raising Event of the Year

The primary funding for many of the Cowlitz County Master Gardener Programs comes from our Annual Plant Sale. Our Demonstration Gardens, Raised Bed Give Away and Youth Gardening Classes are all are made possible due to funds raised by our sale. Creating a ‘Pop-up Nursery’ for just one day per year requires a lot of effort from our Master Gardener Volunteers. Read below to learn more.

Thanks for Supporting our 2025 Plant Sale!
Our annual plant sale held in the spring officially kicked off the gardening season. Shoppers found a large variety of native plants, veggie and herb seedlings, and perennial plants and shrubs. This year we sold over 5500 plants! Our large variety of hard-to-find tomatoes and peppers are always a a big hit. In 2025 we sold 19 pepper varieties and 23 tomato varieties.
We Grow Them for You

Seeds, Cuttings and Propagation
In late fall, our volunteers begin the process of growing new plants for the sale. We take cuttings from existing plants, divide bulbs and grasses. In the early spring, we begin planting thousands of plants from seed, timed so that they are the right size for planting when plant sale day arrives. We use our yards, our greenhouses and good old fashioned growing know-how to do our best to bring you a large selection of locally grown quality plants.

It All Comes Together on Plant Sale Day

Plants Funding Education Programs
We want you to have the best possible experience while shopping for the broadest possible array of plants. All at a reasonable price. It is a lot of work, but everyone involved grows from the experience. It is one of the most rewarding ways for us to provide you the plants you want while bringing in the revenues we need to fund and expand the Master Gardener education programs in our community.
Plant Varieties
We take your input, past sales and our team’s gardening know how to bring you so many plants. Although we offer a huge variety of plants here’s what we have planned for tomatoes and peppers (Note: actual varieties on day of sale may vary)

An Important Step: Hardening Off
Hardening off your young plants is a vital step of acclimating them to the outdoors to assure their survival. You don’t want to transplant seedlings directly in the garden without “weaning” them first. This goes for vegetables, herbs, and flowers.
Up until this point, your seedlings have been protected from wind, rain, cold, heat, and intense sunlight. They need to toughen up before you fling them into the deep end of the pool, so to speak.
